  HIFU-PRO2008 is a local thermal ablation therapeutic system under the built in real-time ultrasound guide that generates finely focused ultrasound energy beams to penetrate the patient’s abdominal wall without heat injury in the acoustic beam pathway while she is lying in the treatment bed, and deposit thermal energy on the uterine target lesions causing coagulation necrosis.

The necrotic fibroids are then slowly absorbed. The duration of the HIFU ablation session depends on the sizes of the fibroids, it typically takes 40-60 minutes to as long as 3 hours. 

  Currently, hundreds of research papers had been published, in 2022, An opinion paper published in the Journal of Clinical Medicine looked at the systemic review, randomized controlled clinical trials, and observational studies regarding  outcomes of HIFU from January 

2018  to August 2022, the researchers concluded that HIFU could be considered as an alternative non-surgical treatment of uterine fibroids. 

They found that HIFU has a low incidence of side effects, fast recovery, and high patient satisfaction better than surgical approaches. Some people may experience pain and low abdominal soreness right after the treatment. 

Now HIFU has treated more than 120,000 patients worldwide. 

The cost:  the Department of Health, Taipei, approved that the average cost was $5500-7000 US dollars.

The cost will vary depending on the location and the number of tumors. Some may need several treatment sessions.
